Otherwise the next owner could find your personal data like credit cards, healthcare records, social security number, etc. But Windows doesn't really delete files, even when it says it does! And most people would like to give away or sell their old computer instead of destroying it when they upgrade. If you're borrowing someone's computer that isn't even an option, so you need to confidently remove sensitive data without destroying everything.

1. DotAVIguy: cipher /W dose nothing at all. I have run cipher on 3 drives and the data was still recoverable, I got 5000 uncorrupted .jpg .png files after cipher. Think I'm going to try DBAN today.
